The Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is that group of people that make our liturgy possible by doing the behind the scenes work so essential in God's house. A dedicated group of women from our congregation are responsible for ensuring that all the vessels and vestments for worship are kept in good order and put into position when needed.
The work of the Altar Guild goes on quietly behind the scenes and is often unnoticed, since worshipers do not ordinarily think about the usual furnishings of the altar and sanctuary, or who has put them out, or who cares for them.
It is a special ministry whose mission is to care for everything that relates to the altar. In addition, they shoulder a wide range of other responsibilities: making or purchasing vestments - however thus far clergy have not needed assistance with vestments, and linens; managing flower monies and orders, replenishing the supply of bread, wine and candles; and participating in special rites like the stripping of the altar on Maundy Thursday, etc.
If you are interested in contributing in this way to St Martin of Tours Anglican/Lutheran church, please contact Rose Jones at 247-9150 or Jill Marsh at 247- 8767 who are co-chairs of the Altar Guild.
